The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s AgSTAR Program will sponsor a two-day conference on the status and potential of anaerobic digestion of animal wastes. The conference will focus on the role that anaerobic digestion can play with respect to reduction of the air and water quality impacts of animal wastes, elements required for project planning to insure operational and financial success, and system operation and maintenance issues. 

Who Should Attend? 

Anyone interested or involved in the design, financing, operation, or regulatory oversight of animal waste management systems or in the development of alternative sources of energy.

Planned Conference Sessions and Preliminary Agenda

The conference will include sessions on project planning, centralized systems, state public utility regulations, operation and management issues, performance evaluation, green power, available alternatives, and resources available from the AgSTAR program.

Special Pre-Conference Evening Session – Methane to Markets Partnership

On the evening of April 24th there will be a special pre-conference session to introduce the Methane to Market Partnership Program. This Partnership is a voluntary, non-binding framework for international cooperation to advance the recovery and use of methane as a valuable clean energy source in the developing world. The role of the Partnership is to bring diverse organizations together with international governments to catalyze the development of methaneprojects in key sectors, including livestock waste management. Attending this event is critical for any business or organization interested in becoming involved in developing livestock methane projectsinternationally. At this event you will learn about how your organization can participate in the Partnership and the benefits of thisparticipation.

Exhibit Opportunities

With 175 attendees from throughout the US and the world, the AgSTAR National Conference is a prime opportunity for you to get your message out! 

There are a limited number of booth and table top exhibit spaces available free of charge. Exhibitors will receive a 10' X 10' booth space or a table top space on a first-come first-served basis. All exhibitors will be listed in the conference proceedings document.

Exhibit set-up will be on Monday, April 24, from 2:00–6:00 PM. There will be an evening reception held in the exhibit hall from 5:30–7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 25th. Both continental breakfasts and all breaks will be served in the exhibit hall. Exhibits can be broken down on Wednesday morning from 12:00 Noon–4:00 PM. This schedule is tentative and subject to change.

Sponsorship Opportunities

All funds provided by our sponsors will be used to offset the costs of refreshments during the conference and reception that cannot be covered with government funds. Sponsors will enjoy a host of benefits, including: increased exposure among the conference attendees and recognition in the conference materials. AgSTAR will list sponsors in the conference proceedings, the agenda, and will post signs at the conference acknowledging sponsors’ generous donations. Signs will include single color graphics (i.e., logos) if they are provided electronically in advance.

There are two ways to sponsor the AgSTAR National Conference: 

  • Option One: Provide sponsorship at a certain level.
  • Option Two: Be a primary sponsor of a specific conference function.

Farm Site Tours

As part of this year’s conference we will be visiting two dairy farms with operating digesters.The two farms we will visit are:

The Vir-Clar Farm in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin—A Biogas Nord complete mix, mesophilic digester at a 1,350 head dairy farm and the Lake Breeze Farm in Malone, WI—A GHD, Inc modified, mesophilic plug-flow digester at a 3,000 head dairy farm.

The tour will take place on Wednesday, April 26 from 12:00 noon – 6:30 PM.  Roundtrip bus transportation from the conference hotel will be provided. There is no additional fee to participate in the tours.

A block of rooms has been reserved for conference participants at the conference hotel, the Madison Concourse Hotel from Monday, April 24 - Wednesday, April 26, 2006. You may make your reservations by calling the hotel directly at 608-257-6000. In order to receive the special conference rate of $99 single or $109 double plus tax please be sure to reference the AgSTAR National Conference. The reservation deadline has been extended to Monday, April 10, 2006. Reservations must be made on, or before, Monday, April 10, 2006 to receive the discounted conference rate. After this date, reservations will accepted on a space- and rate-available basis only.
